Here's a picture of the space that's been keeping me sane. It's a little patch of wild woods next to the studio that I carved a winding path through last spring and curated with little treasures from around the yard. It feels good to walk barefoot on now, especially with all the rain. Early last week, as I was walking the path and pondering on how to participate within the current unpredictability that seems to be unfolding further daily, I found myself wanting to cut through a wild patch off the path that's scattered with prickly things.
I resisted.
Then a thought popped into my mind:
If you wanna change paths, yougotta do something DIFFERENT
I bent down and gathered up the prickly things and began clearing the first new path of the year.
Glazing was also happening at this time. It felt like a good starting place to practice doing something different. I glazed... unrestrained. I was messy and irreverent. A bit naughty, even. I put colors together that felt offensive to my creative sensibilities.
But THIS is when we shine. When we stop doing things the way they've always been done. It's HOW we shine. It's in the chaos where extraordinary ideas form. New perspectives. Fresh connections. New ways of solving old problems. We learn new things about ourselves...and new ways to collaborate with our world.
Sooooo, here's the result of...all that:
AND SO: find a bit of time to unplug, and sprinkle some unpredictability into your weekend.
Do things out of order.
Say yes to a little ridiculous idea.
Stay up all night like you did in your twenties.
Give yourself some time to cultivate your own creative chaos and see what happens!
If you do, share your experience below to inspire others!
